While the Bruntland Report focused on a multilateral, international approach to the environment and development as a single issue, its definition of sustainable development can be thought applicable to any organisation, especially one operating – like Bowater Architectural – in the built environment sector.
That perception of sustainable development is utterly integral to our sense of Corporate Social Responsibility, whether it is in the sourcing of our suppliers and materials, our manufacturing processes, our logistics and distribution methods or the environmental and energy efficiency performance of our products.

With a group company being one of the first in the UK to be awarded with the International Standard for Environmental Management (ISO 14001); we operate an Environmental Management System (EMS) which provides a framework for managing environmental responsibilities so they become more integrated into overall business operations. The system also ensures that we can implement measures to minimise our impact upon the environment and ensure ultimate compliance with relevant legislation.
The EMS is overseen by our own in-house environmental departmental, headed by a dedicated sustainability manager. The department has considerable experience in environmental management systems and compliance to legislation, and can provide guidance and assistance to our customer base on all environmental issues from the implementation of ISO 14001, to recycling and energy reduction.
